What I’m Working On – 4/5/12
So today I freaked myself out, because I had to have something done to put up on the site for Thursday and I didn’t think I was going to have anything finished to show. I’ve been super busy at my day job this week and I was about to pull my hair out. Then I realized that this entry is called what I’m working on, not what I’ve got done, and that it’s okay to show unfinished work (Gasp!). So now that thats off my plate I’m feeling a lot better. So understand that this piece is nowhere near done. Additional the left side of the work was left as is so you can see the difference between what the colors use to look like and what I’m doing with them.
I’ve had a tone of stuff going on, and there is way too much to list here, so I’ll just talk about this piece that I’m showing today. I’ve been looking for inked artwork to try coloring for weeks now, because I really think that my strength lies with coloring and graphic design and less with hand drawn art. The problem is that it’s hard to get inked art, atleast not where the artist/owner gives you permission to color it. So I decided to use a comic cover that was “Iconic” and that lots of folks have seen before and would not be mistaken for the original color work. Additional, choosing an older comic was a good idea because the color options back then we’re just not as good as what we have now, and I can do a lot more with it. I just pulled the line work out of an finished comic (G.I. Joe #37, July 1985) in Photoshop to see if that would work. It kind of works, but because of the way these comics were printed you get a lot of shading that you might not necessarily want.
Let me know what you think of what I have so far.
